metabolism

Having done a little research, I have learned that our bodies have a basal metabolic rate (BMR). This means we burn calories just by being alive. A bit like an engine quietly idling. You gotta love that!

However, cutting calories can have the annoying effect of reducing our metabolism. So if you’re trying to shed a few pounds, it may defeat the whole purpose if your body goes into starvation mode.

The same goes for skipping meals.

With this in mind, I’ve adopted what I think is a more sane and practical approach. Here are my 5 tips:

1. Walking first thing in the morning
2. Eating breakfast
3. Eating several smaller meals each day
4. Eating until just before feeling full
5. Finding ways to move more such as running, mowing, gardening etc

There’s a lot of advice regarding eating but, as I’ve stressed before, this is not a diet.

If the changes I make are not permanent, then I’ll go straight back to where I came from.

And that’s not going to happen.
